Request an exact DIALux planEN 12464-1 sets how much light different workplaces need, measured in lux on the working plane. The Lux tool uses the lumen method to quickly estimate how many LED luminaires are needed to reach that level, plus uniformity and power per square metre. It gives a solid planning basis before an exact calculation.
- How many lux does an office need?
- EN 12464-1 recommends around 500 lux for normal office work, 300 lux for retail and schools, and 150 lux for warehouses. The tool fills in the right level when you pick a room type.
- How does the tool work out the number of luminaires?
- It uses the lumen method: count equals target illuminance times area, divided by the luminaire's luminous flux times utilisation factor times maintenance factor. The utilisation factor depends on the room shape and surface reflectance.
- Is the calculation enough for an installation?
- It gives a solid guide for count, uniformity and power. For an installation that must be approved we recommend an exact DIALux plan, which also accounts for glare (UGR) and point-by-point values. We produce that for you.
